About Us

Our Story

My name is Ja’Neisha D Harston, but most people know me as Honey. A Dose Of Honey was born in Brinkley, Arkansas, from something that was much more personal than wanting to start a skincare business. It started with wanting to understand my own skin.

As an African American woman, I grew up in a world where beauty standards didn’t always make room for skin that looked like mine. Hyperpigmentation, dark marks, uneven skin tone, texture, and other things that are completely normal for melanated skin were often treated like something we needed to hide or fix. I wanted to understand why my skin reacted the way it did and, more importantly, what I could do about it.

So at 14, I started formulating.

I wasn’t trying to create a brand. I was trying to create solutions. I experimented with ingredients, made mistakes, tried again, and slowly learned what worked for me and what didn’t. That curiosity eventually became A Dose Of Honey—a brand created from the belief that skincare should help you care for your skin, not make you feel like you have to change who you are to be considered beautiful.

I also wanted to challenge the beauty standards I had grown up seeing. I wanted to create products for people who looked like me, while reminding them that our natural skin, our texture, our melanin, and our imperfections don’t make us less beautiful.

My grandmother played a huge part in shaping the woman behind this brand. She taught me the importance of caring for people, being intentional, and putting love into whatever you create. I lost her during COVID, at a time when everything already felt uncertain. Losing her changed me, and there are so many moments when I wish she could see what A Dose Of Honey has become.

In 2024, I lost Jaylon. That loss changed me in a different way, too. When you lose people you love, you realize how precious it is to build something that means something while you’re here. I carry both of their memories with me, and their influence is part of the reason I continue to create even when things get hard.

A Dose Of Honey grew through COVID, through grief, through personal struggles, and through years of learning. What started with me formulating at 14 became something I could share with other people—a little piece of the care, curiosity, and intention that started it all.

Today, I still formulate with that same mindset. I don’t want to create products simply because they’re trendy or because they’ll sell. I want to understand the ingredients. I want to be intentional about what I put my name on. And I want the person using my products to feel like their skin is being cared for, not corrected.

Because A Dose Of Honey has never been about perfection.

It’s about care, confidence, individuality, and redefining what beauty gets to look like.

From Brinkley, Arkansas to wherever this journey takes us, I’m still creating for the girl I was at 14—the girl who just wanted to understand her skin and find something that worked.

And I’m creating for every person who has ever looked in the mirror and felt like they needed to change something about themselves to feel beautiful.

You don’t have to change who you are. You deserve to care for what you’ve already been given.

That’s A Dose Of Honey.

With love,
Ja’Neisha ā€œHoneyā€ Harston
